The Purchasing Buyer is responsible for purchasing materials, supplies, and services at the most favorable terms for the organization. This role ensures a continuous supply of materials in line with established inventory levels while supporting cost-saving initiatives and maintaining vendor relationships to meet production needs.
Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
- Qualify vendors, evaluate bids, and negotiate prices and terms for the purchase of materials, goods, and services.
- Purchase raw materials used in manufacturing products or conducting product development research.
- Identify, evaluate, and monitor suppliers to ensure reliable sourcing, quality, and availability of required commodities.
- Track and manage purchases, monitor vendor performance regarding quality and service, and maintain up-to-date vendor information.
- Negotiate resolutions with suppliers regarding quality and service issues, providing feedback on performance to ensure continuous improvement.
- Monitor and analyze the commodities market and global economic conditions to make informed purchasing decisions.
- Work with the planning team to analyze inventory levels, manufacturing schedules, and long-term business objectives to effectively plan purchases.
- Collaborate with the transportation team to determine optimal delivery terms, rates, and freight classifications.
- Ensure up-to-date supply contingency plans are in place in case primary suppliers fail to meet requirements.
- Use strategic sourcing tools to support continuous cost reduction efforts for product bill of materials (BOM) costs.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards governing the purchase and delivery of goods.
- Perform other duties as assigned related to procurement and purchasing.
- Work closely with Engineering and New Product Development to ensure projects and production release plans are properly sourced, planned and on target.
- Support all departments to ensure that product needs are met and on time

Minimum Qualifications
- 3 years of experience in purchasing or commodity buying, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred).
